Anything cool to do around Colorado Springs or Canon City?

I am going to fly from NC to Colorado springs and be driving to Canon city for the day. Its as far west as this southern boy has ever gone.
I have seen mountains before(we have them here) but I figure I can see those on the drive. I am very much

The Royal Gorge is nearby. You probably wouldn't want to take the time to ride the train from Canon to it because it takes a while, but you can drive there yourself. Walking across the bridge is quite an experience, and you can get some awesome pictures.
