define JDM [ yahoo answers is stupid and makes me make my question at least 20 charcters long]?

i am a little bit confused as to exactly what JDM (japanese domestic market/model) represents. my current understanding of it is that any car built to japanese specs is jdm. eg. a nissan silvia is JDM, but a nissan 240sx (almost the same car) is not.
