how do i install a new thermostat when my old one is an oldschool round clare one with only two wires?

well the new honeywell rth2310b programable thermostat install instructions are for a thermostat newer than mine and with 4 or 5 wires but mine is from th 50's.
anyone know if i can just install it as is and where could i get instructions.
